SEOUL, July 16 (Yonhap) -- North Korea has claimed that a South Korean tourist killed by a North Korean soldier while touring the North's mountain resort was shot three times, the head of a South Korean company operating the tour program said Wednesday.

The North's comment compares with its earlier claim that the soldier shot the South Korean victim Park Wang-ja, a 53-year-old housewife from Seoul, twice after firing blanks while she was entering a fenced-off beach area at the resort on Friday.

"The North Korean side said it shot Park, who was running away, three times after firing a blank," Yoon Man-joon, chief executive of Hyundai Asan Corp., told reporters.

Yoon returned home on Tuesday after a four-day trip to the resort site to persuade North Korean officials to allow South Korean officials to investigate the shooting death of Park.
