SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Sept. 24-30, 2009.
24 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Pak Jae-gyong, North Korean vice minister of the people's armed forces, met in Beijing with Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, on Sept. 23.
24 Minju Choson, mouthpiece of the Cabinet, says autumn harvests have begun all across North Korea.
24 The 58th plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of (North) Korea (UAWK) is held in Taechon County, North Pyongan Province.
24 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, receives credentials from Petros Avierinos, new Greek ambassador to the North, at Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.
24 The North Korean government economic delegation led by Foreign Trade Minister Ri Yong-nam leaves Pyongyang for Cuba to attend the 28th inter-governmental economic, scientific and technological consultative committee.
25 The KCNA says the 40th plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Kimilsung Socialist Youth League was held in Wonsan on Sept. 23 "to discuss tasks of the youth league organizations to successfully conclude the general offensive this year by dynamically waging a 100-day campaign with the same vim and vigor with which they won a victory in the 150-day campaign."
25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Ali Abdullah Saleh, president of Yemen, to mark the 47th anniversary of the country's September 26 Revolution.
25 A ceremony is held at Rajin Port, North Hamgyong Province, to mark the arrival of a food shipment donated by the Russian government to North Korea.
25 The KCNA says the 7th National Ssirum (Korean wrestling) Tournament for the Grand Bull Prize was held Sept. 23-25 in Pyongyang.
26 A Chinese movie industry delegation headed by Zhao Haicheng, assistant president of the China Film Group Corporation, flies into Pyongyang.
26 Rodong Sinmun, organ of the Workers' Party, criticizes new South Korean Defense Minister Kim Tae-young's remarks in the parliament that the military is capable of launching a preemptive strike on North Korea.
28 The KCNA says Wen Jiabao, premier of the Chinese State Council, will pay an official goodwill visit to North Korea Oct. 4-6 at the invitation of the Workers' Party and the North Korean government.
28 The M.E. Pyatnichki Russian State Academic People's Chorus, on a visit to the North, performs at the Pyongyang Grand Theater with Minister of Culture Kang Nung-su attending.
28 The two Koreas begin a new round of reunions for families separated by the Korean War at the North Korean Mt. Kumgang resort.
28 Rice donated by Vietnam to North Korea arrives at Nampho Port.
28 Melvin Lee Cheatham, special assistant to Rev. Franklin Graham of the United States, and his companion fly into Pyongyang.
28 A week-long Chinese film festival opens with due ceremony in Pyongyang as part of celebrations marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and North Korea.
28 The 28th Yun I Sang concert opens with due ceremony in Pyongyang, attended by Kang Nung-su, minister of Culture, among others. Yun (1917-1995) was a world renowned Korean-German composer originally from South Korea. He was given political asylum by West Germany, eventually becoming a naturalized German citizen, following his abduction and torture in the 60s by the South Korean secret service and having been sentenced to death.
28 A North Korean fine art exhibition is opened in Beijing to mark China's 60th anniversary and the "year of China-North Korea friendship."
28 A reception hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Korea Friendship Association is held in Beijing to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, attended by Choe Jin-su, North Korean ambassador to China.
29 A reception co-hosted by the North's Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association is held in Pyongyang to celebrate the 60th anniversary China's foundation, attended by Yang Hyong-sop, vice-president of the SPA Presidium, Choe Chang-sik, minister of Public Health, who also doubles as chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association.
29 The 21st symposium on Yun I Sang's music is held in Pyongyang, attended by Kim Pyong-hun, head of the General Federation of the Unions of Art and Literature of (North) Korea, and Song Sok-hwan, vice minister of Culture.
29 Kim Yong-il, premier of the Cabinet, sends a congratulatory message to Sali Berisha upon his re-election as Albanian prime minister.
29 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Seretse Khama Ian Khama, president of Botswana, in observance of the 43rd anniversary of its independence.
29 A delegation of the Women's International Democratic Federation led by president Marcia de Campos Pereira arrives in Pyongyang.
29 Naguib Sawiris, chairman and CEO of Orascom Telecom Holding of Egypt, and his party fly into Pyongyang.
29 A friendly meeting with staff members of the Mongolian embassy in Pyongyang is held at a cooperative farm in Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province.
29 A Chinese exhibition of oil paintings opens in Pyongyang with due ceremony at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two governments.
29 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il met the participants in a national meeting of active non-commissioned officers of the Korean People's Army in Pyongyang.
29 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance at light industrial establishments in Pyongyang, including the newly-built Taedong River Foodstuff Factory and Pyongyang Textile Machine Plant.
29 Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to Pyongyang, gives a reception at Yanggakdo International Hotel to mark China's 60th birthday, attended by Kim Yong-nam, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) and Culture Minister Kang Nung-su.
30 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to workers at the Pyongyang Catfish Farm and the December 7 Factory in Pyongyang.
30 The 28th Yun I Sang concert closes with a performance held at the Yunisang Concert Hall in Pyongyang, attended by Song Sok-hwan, vice minister of Culture.
30 A Chinese art troupe headed by Sun Xiaohong, secretary of the Committee of the Communist Party of China Arts and Entertainment Group, flies into Pyongyang.
30 A foreign ministry spokesman says North Korea will not be bound by the latest United Nations resolution on non-proliferation and disarmament, saying it will never give up its nuclear weapons.
30 A Mongolian photo exhibition opens with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International Cultural Center.
30 The Order of the North Korean Friendship First Class is awarded to Naguib Sawiris, chairman and CEO of Orascom Telecom Holding of Egypt, "in recognition of the positive contributions he has made to developing the relations of friendship and economic cooperation between the DPRK and Egypt," according to the KCNA.
30 Kim Jong-il, together with Kim Yong-nam and Cabinet Premier Kim Yong-il, sends a message of greetings to Chinese President Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, and Premier Wen Jiabao to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of China.
