SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Feb. 25-March 3.


25 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), meets with Daulat Hotma Audison Passaribu, Indonesian ambassador to the DPRK (North Korea), who paid a farewell call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

25 An annual meeting of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with Cuba is held at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club in Pyongyang.

25 A spokesman for the General Staff of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) criticizes "the U.S. imperialists and the warmongers of the South Korean puppet army" for staging their annual Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises, which begin March 8.

25 An art performance is given by student art groups in Pyongyang at the Mansudae Art Theatre.

25 An inter-governmental agreement on joint construction, management and preservation of a bridge over the Amnok (Yalu) River on the DPRK-China border is made between the DPRK and China in Dandong City in China.

26 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports a relevant institution of the DPRK recently detained four South Koreans who illegally entered it, saying they were under investigation by the institution.

26 Rodong Sinmun says the working class in the DPRK is the vanguard steering the era of a great surge and a mainstay for building an economic power.

26 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Viktor Yanukovich upon his election as Ukrainian president.

26 The minutes of talks between economic delegations of the DPRK and Vietnam in Pyongyang are signed off on by both parties.

26 The sports contest for the Mount Paektu Prize, which was opened to celebrate the birthday of leader Kim Jong-il, closes at the Basketball Gymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang.

25-26 A national meeting of agricultural workers is held in Pyongyang.

26 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Bakary Fofana upon his appointment as minister of State for Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Francophone
Affairs of Guinea.

27 A delegation of the Foreign Ministry led by Vice Minister Kung Sok-ung leaves Pyongyang to visit Russia.

28 The KCNA says North Korea produced posters encouraging the masses to the struggle to implement the tasks set forth in the joint calls issued by the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) on the occasion of its 65th founding anniversary.

28 The 11th meeting of the Joint Presidium of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification (Pomminryon) is held in the North and the South and abroad by way of exchanging facsimile messages.

28 In the run-up to the 91st anniversary of the March 1 Popular Uprising in Korea, a spokesman for the Measure Committee for the Issue of Former Korean "Comfort Women" for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims urges Japan to apologize for its past crimes.

28 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Michelle Bachelet, president of Chile, regarding the great losses suffered by the country after it was shaken by a strong earthquake on Feb. 27. Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun also sent a message of sympathy to Mariano Fernandez Amunategui, foreign minister of Chile, regarding the quake.


1 Rodong Sinmun reports that leader Kim Jong-il's works were brought out in booklets in different countries.

1 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Abdelaziz Bouteflika, president of Algeria, on his 73rd birthday. He also sends a message of congratulations to Jose Alberto Mujica Cordano on his election and inauguration as president of Uruguay.

1 Rodong Sinmun says all Koreans should get united under the uplifted banner of national independence to reunify the divided country at an early date and open up the road for its eternal prosperity.

2 The KCNA reports that the United States is going to stage together with the puppet army of South Korea large-scale joint military exercises codenamed Key Resolve and Foal Eagle from March 8.

2 The KCNA says leading North Korean newspapers urge the people to turn out for spring tree-planting and "devote their patriotic passion to this drive to build the country into a socialist paradise of scenic beauty."

2 Rodong Sinmun criticizes South Korea for raising the nonexistent human rights issue in the DPRK.

2 Acting representative Kamrul Islam and members of the mission of the United Nations Children's Fund plant trees at the April 15 Children's Flower Garden on the occasion of tree-planting day.

2 Working people and school youth and children across the country turn out to plant trees.

2 Thomas Schafer, German ambassador to the DPRK, gives a reception at his embassy on the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and Germany.

3 The KCNA reports that the North-South military working-level talks took place in Kaesong on March 2.

3 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Georgi Parvanov, president of Bulgaria, on its national day.

3 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to Boyko Borisov, prime minister of Bulgaria, on its national day.

3 The KCNA says researchers of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University have developed a new multi-functional health food using beans and flax oil.

3 A film screening is held at the Taedongmun Cinema on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Polish composer Chopin.
