All Headlines 13:14 March 14, 2010

SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automaker, said Sunday it expects domestic sales of its all-new mid-sized Sonata, launched just seven months ago, to top 100,000 units this month.

According to the carmaker, it sold a total of 87,490 units of the new Sonata in the past six months. On a monthly basis, over 15,000 units have been sold since its market debut last September. Hyundai Motor has set its annual sales target at 450,000 units for 2011.

The new Sonata sedan is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and a two-liter gasoline engine.

In January this year, Hyundai Motor unveiled a roomier and more powerful version of its Sonata sedan, equipped with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine to better compete with Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. at home.
