SEOUL, March 16 (Yonhap) -- Eastar Jet Co., a South Korean budget carrier, said Tuesday that it has increased its fleet of five planes to six by introducing a B737 NG-700 from Boeing Co.

The 149-seat passenger plane will fly on overseas routes to Southeast Asia, Japan and China, Eastar Jet said.

Eastar Jet said in January that it had a plan to offer flight services to the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Shenyang from late April this year. The budget carrier also said that it will provide flight services to the regions of Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, without revealing the timing.

Eastar Jet launched irregular flights between Incheon, South Korea's main gateway, and Kuching, Malaysia, from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.

The low-cost carrier began providing domestic routes in January 2009.
