SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) -- Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, a leading South Korean healthcare institute, said Wednesday that it will open the nation's largest medical examination center in downtown Seoul this week in partnership with U.S.-based Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The medical center, located in the two basement levels of a building held by Samsung Group, will open on Thursday and plans to carry out health checkups for 300 patients a day or 80,000 a year, the hospital said.

The center will be operated in cooperation with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and provide specialized examination services by medical professionals with cutting-edge medical equipment, according to the hospital.

The center and Johns Hopkins had agreed earlier to conduct a joint study to find out what long-term effects daily eating habits and different lifestyles have on human health.

"The new center will try to determine disease models of South Koreans and draw up guidelines for medical examinations that meet international standards," said Shin Ho-cheol, a professor with the hospital.
