CHRONOLOGICAL REVIEW

SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from September 8-14, 2011.

September

8 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) Presidium, meets with Hilary Onek, minister of internal affairs of Uganda, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

8 North Korean leader Kim Jong-il inspects a series of economic facilities in Pyongyang, including a meat shop in Potongmun Street, the Pyongyang Stevia Processing Factory, the newly built shop for wheat cakes stuffed with meat at the Kumsong Foodstuff Factory and the construction sites in the Mansudae area.

8 Choe Thae-bok, chairman of the SPA, meets with Peter Simon, member of European Parliament from the Social-Democratic Party of Germany, at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

8 An event with the theme of "First Aid for All" takes place at Okjon Secondary School No. 1 in South Pyongan Province on World First Aid Day, with officials from the North Korean Red Cross Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross in attendance.

8 A national meeting is held at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of North Korea, with the participation of Premier Choe Yong-rim.

8 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says a North Korean doctorate on Taekwondo was conferred on George Vitale, adviser to the U.S. Taekwondo Association.

8 The 17th ITF Taekwondo World Championships open at the Taekwondo Hall in Pyongyang, with more than 800 fighters from more than 80 countries participating.

8 Kim Jong-il receives a message of greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao on the 63rd anniversary of the founding of North Korea.

8 The grand gymnastic and artistic performance Arirang is staged at the May Day Stadium to mark the 63rd anniversary of the founding of North Korea.

12 A delegation of the Central Committee of the Fatherland Front of Vietnam led by its Vice President Le Ba Trinh and a delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor led by its Chairman Dang Ngoc Tung leaves Pyongyang.
