Builders with records of bribery to receive penalty points in government bids

All Headlines 14:55 May 27, 2012

SEOUL, May 27 (Yonhap) -- Builders with records of bribery will face penalty points when they bid for government projects, the land and transport ministry said Sunday, a move aimed at barring corrupt firms from winning government orders.

So far, even if companies receive administrative punishments for bribery, such as business suspension or a ban on their participation in government bids, many still compete for government bids by suspending those measures with injunction lawsuits.

In an effort to fill the loophole, the ministry said it will give such companies penalty points when assessing bids for public projects. Officials said the new measure is expected to prevent corrupt firms from winning government orders.

Companies with records of anti-competition collusion with other firms will face similar measures.
