YEOSU, South Korea, June 2 (Yonhap) -- Yeosu Expo will host a special "Survival - I am a Singer" concert by popular South Korea performers as part of the GS Caltex Corp. event, fair organizers said Saturday.

The event, set for the next day on the exposition's main "Big O," stage will feature appearances by In Soon-i, Shin Hyo-bum, Park Wan-kyu, Cho Kyu-chan, Kim Jo-han and Red Rain, who all competed on the popular televised singing show.

The show is very popular in South Korea because it permits audiences to hear and see singing and dancing by the best performers in the country. Viewers directly vote on their favorite performer after the show with the singer who gets the least votes being ejected from the contest.

The show has been heralded for showcasing talented singers who have been overshadowed by younger girl groups and boy bands.

Organizers said that judging by the number of people who showed up for a "Big-Five" concert hosted by Hyundai Motor Group on May 25, the GS Caltex event should draw large crowds.

At the Hyundai show, more than 10,000 people showed up to see popular singers including Kim Gun-mo and Lee Seung-hwan, and groups such as 2AM.

Because large crowds are expected for the concert that begins at 6:30 p.m., organizers said, they will increase security personnel to keep order and prevent people from getting hurt.

As the Expo experiences a steady rise in visitor numbers, organizers said people had to wait for up to two hours to see popular attractions, such as South Korea's largest aquarium and a corporate pavilion operated by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co.

The fair, which opened on May 12, is being held in the port city of Yeosu, located 455 kilometers south of Seoul on the country's southern coast.

The 93-day event, under the theme of "The Living Ocean and Coast," is the first Paris-based Bureau of International Exhibitions-approved event hosted by South Korea since the 1993 Daejeon Expo.
