SEOUL, July 12 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean man was put under arrest on Thursday for ramming his truck into the Japanese Embassy in central Seoul in protest against a right-wing Japanese activist's nationalistic act.

The Seoul Central District Court approved prosecutors' request for the arrest warrant for the 62-year-old antique dealer, surnamed Kim, a day earlier on suspicion of attacking the embassy on Monday.

No damage was reported although the main gate was pushed back by one meter after his truck carrying a banner reading "Dokdo is our territory" charged into the embassy in the early morning.

In a previous police interrogation, Kim said he attacked it in a show of protest against a right-wing Japanese activist's nationalistic insult last month over Korean women forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during World War II.

"He is very likely to repeat the crime as he said he will do so until his will is fulfilled, and the method of the crime is very dangerous," a court official said over the issuance.

Public anger flared up last month after the 47-year-old far-right Japanese activist set up a provocative wooden stake beside a bronze statue of a young girl in front of the Japanese embassy.

The bronze statue, installed in December by former sex slavery victims and their supporters, symbolizes Korean wartime sex slavery.

The slim white post tied to the statue read "Dokdo is Japanese territory," a claim in line with those by Japan's extreme rightists.

Nobuyuki Suzuk, the far-right activist, later posted a video clip on his blog showing him setting up the post and calling the war crime victims prostitutes.

The Japanese embassy in Seoul has often been the target of attacks as the country refuses to admit and apologize for wartime crimes during its militaristic past.
