SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from August 2-8, 2012.
2 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says the National Gift Exhibition was successfully built and opened at the foot of Mt. Ryongak in Pyongyang.
2 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un meets the visiting delegation of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) led by its head Wang Jiarui, with Vice Premier Kang Sok-ju and Party Secretary Kim Yang-gon in attendance.
2 The KCNA says local factories in Jagang Province have kept their operations at full capacity through a technical improvement drive.
2 The KCNA says the 2nd Rason International Trade Fair is to be held on Aug. 20-30.
2 A national symposium on medicine takes place at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the publication of Kim Il-sung's work "On Improving Public Health Service."
3 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un's talk with leading officials of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) on July 26, entitled "Let Us Affect Kim Jong-il's Patriotism and Step up the Building of a Prosperous Country," was made public.
3 A national university students sports contest for the September 5 Prize opens with due ceremony at Hamhung Stadium in South Hamgyong Province.
3 The National August 3 Consumer Goods Exhibition opens with due ceremony at the Central Light Industrial Sample Exhibition in Pyongyang.
3 Michael Luther, a member of the Federal Parliament from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, arrives in Pyongyang.
4 Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), along with Minister of Foreign Trade Ri Ryong-nam and Minister of Mining Industry Kang Min-chol leave Pyongyang to pay official goodwill visits to Vietnam and Laos.
4 Premier Choe Yong-rim tours Anju City, South Phyongan Province, which was hit by recent flooding.
4 The KCNA denounces the U.S. on listing North Korea as "a state of special concern without freedom of religion" in its annual report on international religious freedom.
4 The KCNA says flooding triggered by a typhoon and downpour swept through some area of the DPRK (North Korea) from late June to July 31, causing big human and material losses in the country. The KCNA says the flood left 169 people dead, 144 injured and 400 missing, citing data available.
5 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam arrived in Hanoi to pay an official goodwill visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang.
6 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un provided field guidance to the Combined Stock Farm, a beef cattle breeding farm, in Ungok Area.
6 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un inspected a sub unit under the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) Unit 552, accompanied by Vice Marshal and Director of the KPA General Political Bureau Choe Ryong-hae, and Vice Marshal and First-vice Minister of the People's Armed Forces Hyon Chol-hae.
6 The 2012 Pyongyang Machine Equipment Exhibition opens with due ceremony at the Tree-Revolution Exhibition, with Minister of Machine Industry Ri Jong-guk in attendance.
6 The KCNA says most areas of the DPRK had suffered from typhoon-triggered downpours from July 18.

7 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Pekka Wuoristo, the outgoing Finnish Ambassador to the DPRK.
7 Kim Yong-il, a party secretary, meets with Michael Luther, a member of the Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, who paid a courtesy call on him.
7 Ri Pyong-chol, the commander of the air and anti-air forces of the KPA, leaves Pyongyang to visit Russia.
7 The KCNA says talks between the DPRK Red Cross Society and Japan Red Cross Society will be held in Beijing on Aug. 9-10.
7 The KCNA says scientists and technicians in the DPRK have invented new kinds of one kilowatt-capacity wind power generator and solar garden lamps.
8 Talks between Kim Yong-nam, titular head of state of North Korea, and Lao President Choummaly Sayasone are held at the Presidential Palace in Vientiane, Laos.
8 A national meeting is held in Changsong County, North Phyongan Province, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Changsong joint conference of local party and economic officials personally guided by late leader Kim Il-sung.
8 The KCNA says senior party and state officials, including Premier Choe Yong-rim and officials of party, ministries, national institutions and local party, power and economic bodies, visited various sites in Changsong County, North Phyongan Province, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Changsong joint conference of local party and economic officials.
8 Agreements between the governments of North Korea and Laos are signed with due ceremonies in Vientiane, Laos.
8 Michael Luther, member of Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, leaves Pyongyang, wrapping up his visit to North Korea.
