Fire breaks out at Samsung Electronics production line at Giheung

SUWON, South Korea (Yonhap) -- A fire broke out at one of Samsung Electronics Co.'s production lines in Giheung, about 40 kilometers south of Seoul, firefighters said Wednesday.

The fire started at 12:36 p.m. on the third production line that makes semiconductors, authorities said. However, the blaze was put out in about 30 minutes, they said.

The exact extent of the damage to the manufacturing line at the world's largest memory chip and mobile phone maker is not yet known. Firefighters said they are also trying to determine if anyone was injured as well as the cause of the blaze.

A total of 15 fire engines were dispatched to fight the blaze along with 33 firefighters.
