BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Yonhap) -- A North Korean farmer has found a way to cultivate a cluster of mushrooms weighing some 20 kilograms, China's state media reported Friday.

The new mushroom-cultivating method, developed by Mun Hye-sun, the farmer of the North's Sariwon city, allows the North to move a step closer to becoming a "mushroom kingdom," the Global Times newspaper, affiliated with China's Communist Party, reported.

Mun, a graduate of the North's agricultural university, spent more than 10 years to find the special mushroom-cultivating method, according to the report.

The accomplishment is being hailed as a sensation in North Korea, following a visit by North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, to a military-run mushroom factory, the report said, without carrying a photo of the mushrooms.
