All Headlines 11:27 October 18, 2013

SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) -- Starting pitchers were announced Friday for the upcoming third game of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) playoff series between the LG Twins and the Doosan Bears.

The Twins will send left-hander Shin Jae-woong to the mound. The Bears will counter with right-hander Dustin Nippert. The third game will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.

Both teams use Jamsil as their home park.

The teams are tied at one game apiece in their best-of-five series. The winner will go on to take on the Samsung Lions in the best-of-seven Korean Series.

The Bears took the first game 4-2 on Wednesday, and the Twins responded with a 2-0 win on Thursday.

Nippert led the Bears with 12 wins during the regular season, along with a 3.58 ERA, and has made three postseason appearances this year, including two out of the bullpen. Nippert also pitched two games in last year's postseason.

This is Shin's first-ever postseason. He was 4-4 during the regular season with a 3.05 ERA in 56 innings.

In three starts against the Twins during the regular season, Nippert went 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA. Shin went 3-1 in five games against the Bears, posting a 2.81 ERA.

As a team, the Bears batted .283 against Shin. The Twins hit .329 versus Nippert.

Nippert started the first game of the previous series against the Nexen Heroes, and came out of the bullpen in the fourth and the fifth game. He served up a game-tying three-run shot to Park Byung-ho with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in Game 5, before the Bears went on to prevail 8-5 in 13 innings. He will pitch on four days' rest.

The Twins earned the bye to the second round thanks to posting the second-best regular season record. Shin's last regular season appearance came on Sept. 30 against the Bears, when he pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up three earned runs to take the loss.
