SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- Asiana Airlines Inc., South Korea's second-largest flag carrier, took over its second Airbus A380 "super jumbo" jet Friday, which will help the company strengthen its medium- to long-haul flight services.

The plane will initially be flown on the Tokyo and Hong Kong route alongside the first A380, before it is used on the Osaka and Bangkok flights starting Tuesday. The plane will be used to carry passengers to Los Angeles starting Aug. 20.

The plane is configured to have 12 first-class seats, 66 seats in business class and 417 coach seats for a total of 495. This is a relatively low passenger density that aims to improve the comfort of passengers, especially on long-distance routes. The Airbus plane can hold up to a maximum of 555 passengers in a three-class seating configuration, and 853 people in an economy-class only seating layout.

The airliner acquired the first super jumbo jet two months ago. Asiana first announced it would purchase the A380 in early 2011, with a total of six to be in operation by 2017.
