SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's Olympic Committee plans to visit South Korea later this month to take part in group draw events and a seminars for the upcoming Asian Games slated to take place in the port city of Incheon, the Games' organizing body said Friday.

"North Korea's Olympic Committee is scheduled to come to South Korea from Aug. 20-22 to take part in the international symposium and the events to determine the groups for the Incheon Asian Games," the Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee said in a statement.

Pyongyang notified the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) of its plan, the South Korean committee said, without elaborating further.

The communist country has said it will dispatch 350 athletes and coaches, along with the same number of cheerleaders, to the upcoming Asian Games to open on Setp. 19 for a two week run.

Since botched inter-Korean talks last month over the details of its participation, including who will cover the cost of the North's delegation, however, neither Seoul nor Pyongyang have proposed another meeting.

The deadline for the North to submit a formal list of its participating athletes and referees to the OCA and the Seoul committee is Aug. 15.

The Incheon Asian Games committee plans to hold the academic conference on Aug. 20 on the theme of whether sports can boost communication and trust among Asians, which is expected to be attended by more than 1,300 people including some 350 experts from overseas. The following day, the group draw for 10 events will take place in Incheon.

"We are planning to discuss with the OCA Secretariat necessary measures for North Korea's participation, and to take action in cooperation with ministries concerned," it added.
