SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- A group of Russian trade officials and experts will tour the Kaesong Industrial Complex this week, which reflects Russian firms' interest in the joint venture of the two Koreas, the unification ministry said Wednesday.

Russia's Trade Representative in South Korea Mikhail B. Bondarenko will lead the nine-member delegation on a day trip to the industrial park, just north of the inter-Korean border, on Thursday, it said.

"This visit is intended to gather information on the Kaesong Industrial Park and check the possibility of Russian companies' investment there," the ministry's deputy spokeswoman Park Soo-jin said at a press briefing.

The industrial park is a fruit of Seoul-Pyongyang reconciliation that peaked in the early 2000s, designed to combine the North's cheap labor with the South's capital and technology.

More than 110 South Korean enterprises, mostly small and midsized ones, employ around 500,000 North Korean workers.

The two Koreas have been struggling to globalize the Kaesong Industrial Park amid continued military tensions on the peninsula.
