Seasoned diplomat named to serve as N. Korea's new envoy to Poland: report

SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- Ri Kun, a seasoned diplomat who has handled U.S. affairs, has been named as North Korea's new envoy to Poland, the country's state-run news agency KCNA said Saturday.

Ri, the director general in charge of North American affairs at the North's foreign ministry, will replace Kim Pyong-il who has recently been transferred to the Czech Republic. Kim, a younger half-brother of late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, had served as the North's ambassador to Poland for 17 years.

Kim Jong-il is the late father of current leader Kim Jong-un.
