SEOUL, March 3 (Yonhap) -- Local tire retailer Tirebank on Tuesday was named the title sponsor for the country's top baseball league.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced the three-year partnership with Tirebank at its Seoul headquarters. The financial details weren't disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth about 7 billion won (US$6.4 million) per year.

Tirebank, founded in 1991, operates some 360 shops nationwide and claims to have about 15 million customers.

Koo Bon-neung, commissioner of the KBO, said he was pleased to be partners with the tire retailer, calling it "a socially responsible company."

Kim Jung-kyu, founder and chairman of Tirebank, said he hopes to enhance the fan experience in the KBO and "make people happier when they watch baseball."

Baseball has long been South Korea's most popular sport. The KBO drew just over 6.5 million fans last season, its fourth consecutive season of at least 6 million spectators.
