(CISM Games) S. Korea sweeps 2 golds, 1 silver in cycling

MUNGYEONG, South Korea, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea dominated the cycling arena at the world military athletic competition on Wednesday by winning two golds and one silver.

After racing 131 kilometers in this southeastern city for the men's road race, Park Kyoung-ho finished first clocking in at 2:51:28.

The silver and the bronze went to South Korea's Park Keon-woo and Tcatevich Aleksei of Russia, respectively.

The two Park's performances led to the host country's team gold in this event, with medals being decided after adding up records of four individuals from each country.

The Korean team involving Choi Seung-woo and Kang Suck-ho edged out the French team by one second of 11:25:58, followed by the German team with the record of 11:26:02. Choi finished 13th and Kang 22nd.

"The achievements are the results of intensive, repeated training so far," coach Han Yong-jin said, expressing satisfaction over the unexpected results.

The medals South Korea won in cycling put the country in fourth place out of the total, grabbing five golds, four silvers and seven bronzes. Russia topped the list with 23 golds, followed by Brazil and China.
