Maritime minister nominee veteran technocrat

SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) -- Kim Young-suk, the nominee for the country's maritime minister, is a veteran who has worked in and around various posts of the maritime ministry since joining the administration more than three decades ago.

Kim began his lifetime career with the government in 1984 after graduating from the state-run Kyungpook National University with a bachelor's in public administration.

He had since served various posts of the maritime minister until he was named a secretary to the president for maritime affairs in 2013. He has been serving as vice minister of oceans and fisheries since last year.

Born in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, the 56-year-old has a master's degree from the United States' Syracuse University and a doctorate from Korea Maritime and Ocean University.
