SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean baseball club Nexen Heroes announced Wednesday that former major league outfielder Shane Spencer will manage their minor league team.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club said Spencer, part of the New York Yankees' championship teams from 1998 to 2000, will be the manager of the Heroes' affiliate in the Futures League. Spencer's official title is minor league field coordinator.

On Tuesday, the Heroes brought back their former pitcher Brandon Knight as their minor league pitching coordinator.

Spencer, 43, played seven Major League Baseball (MLB) seasons, the first five with the Yankees. He signed with the Cleveland Indians as a free agent in January 2013, before getting traded to the Texas Rangers six months later.

Spencer went over to the New York Mets as a free agent in 2004, when he played his last big league game.

He batted .262 with 59 home runs and 242 RBIs in 538 career games.
