WONJU, South Korea, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. military helicopter crashed in Wonju in the mountainous Gangwon Province Monday, authorities said.
Two pilots of the chopper have died in the crash that took place at about 6:22 p.m., according to media reports.
The helicopter, believed to be an AH-64 Apache, crashed on a road some 500 meters away from the house of the resident who first reported the accident to the police. It was burnt to ashes after catching fire, the reports said.
"The helicopter is presumed to have taken off from Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province," a police source said.
The military, the police and firefighting authorities were trying to determine the exact cause of the crash and if there are more casualties than known.
