SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Group heir-apparent Lee Jae-yong on Monday hosted an annual dinner gathering for the top management of South Korea's largest family-run conglomerate, marking the second year in a row he has filled in for his father.

Business sources said some 400 top executives and their spouses were present at the meeting at Hotel Shilla in downtown Seoul.

Of those present, 197 executives were appointed late last year with the dinner being the culmination of five days of special training.

The group event has been held early every year with group chairman Lee Kun-hee presiding over the ceremony and lauding efforts put in by senior managers and their families. The date also coincided with the chairman's birthday.

Because Lee has been incapacitated after suffering a heart attack in May 2014, his son, the current vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co., acted as host.

Besides Jae-yong, his youngest sister Seo-hyun, head of Samsung C&T Corp., was present, while Boo-jin, his other sister and president of Hotel Shilla, was absent because of business-related matters.

Samsung said besides the siblings, Kwon Oh-hyun, vice chief of Samsung Electronics; Yoon Boo-keun, CEO of the tech giant's consumer electronics division; and Kim Ki-nam of Samsung's computer chip business division were present at the closed-door event.
