Seoul shares open tad higher on techs, logistics
SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares opened marginally higher Thursday as tech behemoths and logistics companies gathered ground.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 2.07 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,847.52 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Market behemoth Samsung Electronics added 0.97 percent, and No. 1 chipmaker SK hynix climbed 0.75 percent. LG Display advanced 0.24 percent.
Logistics firms also traded higher, with Hyundai Glovis moving up 0.54 percent and top air carrier Korean Air increasing 0.43 percent. Hyundai Merchant Marine soared 16.41 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,208.00 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up 6 won from the previous session's close.
