SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News Agency is the most-used online news provider in South Korea with an overwhelming occupancy rate, a government survey said Thursday.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the use of Yonhap News information on the Internet topped all other Korean media last year with an 18.5 percent occupancy rate, far higher than the vernacular daily Chosun Ilbo's 8.7 percent and Dong-a Ilbo's 7.7 percent, which came in second and third, respectively.

The high occupancy rate for Yonhap indicates that nearly two out of 10 Internet users utilized Yonhap News information.

Yonhap also came in the third position in terms of influential power on public opinion with 9.9 percent.

Public broadcaster KBS was surveyed to be the most influential news media with 17.5 percent, followed by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper with 11.1 percent.

The survey was conducted by the culture ministry's committee for public opinion last year on newspapers, television broadcasters, radio stations and Internet news entities.

According to the survey's "utilization occupancy rate" of offline newspapers, the Chosun Ilbo topped others with 24.6 percent, followed by the JoongAng Ilbo with 15.7 percent and the Dong-a Ilbo with 14.2 percent.

Of television stations, KBS is the most utilized entity with 29.9 percent.

MBC came in second with 11.2 percent, followed by TV Chosun with 10.6 percent, and SBS and Channel A both with 10.5 percent.

Yonhap News TV, an affiliate of Yonhap News Agency, took up the 7th position with 7 percent.

Of radio stations, MBC came in first position with 40.2 percent, followed by KBS with 25.3 percent and SBS with 11.2 percent.
