SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean cable drama "Cheese in the Trap" has been exported to the Chinese market at the price of US$2 million, the show's PR agency said Friday.

Ytree Company said the 16-episode drama was sold to China's largest video websites, Youku and Tudou, at the highest price in the history of Korean cable drama's exports.

This means that each episode was sold for $125,000, breaking the previous $100,000 recorded by cable channel OCN's "Bad Guys" in 2014.

Ytree Company said the tvN drama reached No. 1 on the Weibo Drama Popularity Chart recently, when its fifth episode aired. The show also reached No. 3 on the 24-Hour Hot Weibo Chart.

According to the company, "Cheese in the Trap" attracted 350 million views on Monday and 400 million views the following day.

It attributed the show's success to its star Park Hae-jin, who enjoys a growing fan base in China.

"Cheese in the Trap" is based on a webtoon of the same name that has had more than 1.1 billion hits on the country's No. 1 portal site, Naver, since 2010.

Unlike his previous role in the mega-hit drama "My Love from the Star" in 2013, Park takes on a stronger persona in this new romance series.
