FM Yu talks with Kerry over N. Korea

All News 17:33 January 24, 2016

SEOUL, Jan. 24 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se spoke on the phone Sunday with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry about North Korea, three days before Kerry's visit to Beijing.

The two discussed ways to solicit China's cooperation in efforts to put more pressure on North Korea, which carried out a fourth nuclear test early this month, an official said.

The phone conversation came at Kerry's request. President Park Geun-hye earlier proposed five-way talks without the North, questioning the viability of the six-party negotiations also involving Japan and Russia.

The six-way talks have been stalled since December 2008.
