All News 17:40 January 26, 2016

SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) -- All 11 passengers and crew members were rescued from a sinking cruise ship in Seoul's Han River, fire officials said Tuesday.

The 125-ton ship, operated by Eland Cruise Co., was carrying six passengers, including three Americans and two Thais, as well as five crew members when the engine room started to leak at around 2:30 p.m. near the Seongsu Bridge, according to fire officials.

All of the passengers and crew members were picked up by a rescue boat about 15 minutes after the accident.

Fire crews are pumping out the water from the cruise ship, the stern of which is underwater, to prevent the boat from completely sinking, fire officials said.

The authorities said they are planning to tow the ship to a quay in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul, after the drainage operation.
