Former navy fleet commander gets 2 years over lobbying
SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- An appeals court on Friday reduced the sentence for a former navy fleet commander for lobbying navy officials in exchange for money.
The Seoul High Court sentenced a former vice admiral, identified only by his family name Ahn, to two years in jail and ordered him to forfeit 175 million won (US$145,000).
A lower court had handed down a four-year sentence for the former commander and ordered him to forfeit the same amount of money.
Ahn was charged with lobbying navy officials to try to get a letter that contains positive assessment of an arms brokerage firm while working as an advisor to the company after retirement.
