S. Korean shares open flat on uncertainties

SEOUL, Feb. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started nearly flat Monday as investors took a wait-and-see approach ahead of China's annual policy meeting later this week.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 2.28 points, or 0.12 percent, to 1,922.44 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Tech shares traded mixed, with Samsung Electronics moving up 0.6 percent while SK hynix shed 2.76 percent. No. 2 tech giant LG Electronics advanced 1.57 percent.

Top mobile carrier SK Telecom remained unchanged, while KT lost 0.52 percent. LG Uplus decreased 0.98 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,244.8 won against the U.S. dollar, down 6.6 won from Friday's close.
