SEOUL, March 2 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News TV has remained the most-watched news channel for the seventh straight month, Nielsen data showed Wednesday.

Yonhap News TV posted an average viewership of 0.914 percent in February, the highest since its launch in late 2011, data by Nielsen Korea showed. The figure makes it the sixth most popular paid platform in the country.

The network first gained the No. 1 spot in August and hasn't relinquished it since. It also renewed its viewership record for a third straight month since December.

On a weekly basis, Yonhap News TV remained the top news channel for 22 consecutive weeks with an average weekly viewership of 0.930 percent.

The increased viewership has been attributed to the channel's timely and in-depth coverage of North Korea's long-range rocket launch in early February; the ensuing shut-down of Kaesong Industrial Complex in the inter-Korean border city of Kaesong; and other political developments related to the upcoming general elections.

"We've maintained our top position last month and widened the gap with the No. 2 news channel," a Yonhap News TV official said. "We'll reward our viewers by continuing to improve our news reporting."
