Hyundai Motor's Feb. sales shrink 6.6 pct
SEOUL, March 2 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading carmaker, said Wednesday that its sales in February shrank 6.6 percent from a year earlier as its overseas sales dropped amid a slump in emerging countries.
Hyundai Motor said in a press release that it sold 336,200 vehicles in February, compared with 359,896 units a year before.
Domestic sales grew 4.2 percent on-year to 48,844 units, while its sales in overseas markets dropped 8.2 percent to 287,356 units.
The fall in overseas sales was attributed to sluggish demand in emerging markets that are going through economic instability. The breakdown for each country was not available.
During the first two months of the year, its cumulative sales at home and abroad came to 674,491 units, down 9.6 percent from the same period a year earlier, the company said.
