U.S. imposes unilateral sanctions on N.K., blacklists all-powerful National Defense Commission

WASHINGTON, March 2 (Yonhap) -- The United States imposed unilateral sanctions on North Korea after the adoption of a new U.N. sanctions resolution on the communist nation on Wednesday, blacklisting Pyongyang's all-powerful National Defense Commission and top officials.

The commission was among 11 individuals and five entities that have been added to the U.S. sanctions list.

The four other entities are the Academy of National Defense Science, the Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry, the National Aerospace Development Administration and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, according to the Treasury Department and the State Department.

The individuals include Hwang Pyong-so, vice chairman of the defense commission.
