S. Korean shares open lower on techs, mobile carriers

SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started weaker Friday following the losses from technology shares and mobile carriers.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) plunged 4.74 points, or 0.24 percent, to 1,953.43 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Tech shares traded bearish, with Samsung Electronics moving down 0.08 percent and SK hynix plunging 0.78 percent. No. 2 tech giant LG Electronics slid 2.05 percent.

Top mobile carrier SK Telecom decreased 1.59 percent and No. 2 KT fell 0.17 percent. LG Uplus also went down 1.92 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,209.4 won against the U.S. dollar, up 5.2 won from Thursday's close.
