S. Korea aims to bolster communication with China on N. Korea's nuclear issue

BEIJING, March 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is seeking to strengthen bilateral communication with China to help resolve North Korea's nuclear standoff, Seoul's ambassador to Beijing said Wednesday.

Kim Jang-soo, the South Korean Ambassador to China, also said he will make efforts to lay groundwork for reunification with North Korea.

Kim made the remarks in an interview with China's official Xinhua News Agency.

North Korea has been hit by a fresh package of U.N. sanctions after its fourth nuclear test and a long-range rocket launch this year, both of which violated previous U.N. resolutions.

Chinese cooperation is key to ensuring the effectiveness of U.N. sanctions because the country accounts for nearly 90 percent of North Korea's external trade.
