Kia Motors' March sales down 3 pct

All News 15:16 April 01, 2016

SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's No. 2 automaker, said Friday that its sales shrank 3 percent on-year in March, mostly affected by weak demand from overseas markets.

Kia Motors said in a press release that it sold 268,236 vehicles here and abroad last month, compared with 276,656 a year earlier.

Domestic sales jumped 19.4 percent to 50,510 units, bolstered by strong demand for its mid- and large-size sedans including the K7. Its overseas sales, however, dropped 7.1 percent to 217,726 units.

A global economic slowdown coupled with less local production through its foreign plants led to a drop in sales abroad, the company explained.

Kia Motors said that it has sold a cumulative total of 705,089 cars during the first quarter, down 6.1 percent from the same period a year earlier.
