Annual salary at 100 largest Korean companies averages 77.4 mln won

SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- The average annual salary at South Korea's 100 largest companies was estimated at 77.4 million won (US$67,225) as of 2014, a local job portal said Friday, with paychecks of men hovering far above those for women.

According to the data compiled by job portal Saramin, male employees at the companies surveyed made about 90 million won annually on average, while female workers received 54.8 million won. The figure is based on the data from 80 out of the top 100 firms which posted regulatory filings.

Employees at NH Investment & Securities Co. had the highest salary at 120 million won, trailed by chemical maker Yeochun NCC Co. with 107 million won.

Korean Reinsurance Company posted 170 million won, followed by SK Energy Co., SK Telecom Co. and Samsung Electronics Co. with 101 million won each.

Oil refinery GS-Caltex Corp. and Kia Motors Corp. were also among the top 10 firms with paychecks of 99.8 million won and 97 million won, respectively. Of the companies surveyed, 27 paid salaries of 70 to 80 million won, while 17 paid 80-90 million won.
