SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) --- Devoted fans of the rising South Korean actor Ryu Jun-yeol have donated a well to Cambodia in his name, the actor's agency said Saturday.

An online fan club of Ryu sent money through the Seoul-based international non-government organization Worldshare to dig the "Ryu Jun-yeol Well No. 1" in the Southeast Asian country, C-Jes Entertainment said.

Ryu rose to stardom for his role in the "Reply 1988," a coming-of-age story about a girl in 1980s South Korea. The tvN series concluded on Jan. 16 with a viewership record of 21.6 percent, which is unusually high for a cable soap.

The fans asked the organization to write on the signboard of the well: "With Ryu Jun-yeol's dream," according to the agency.

"Ryu has always said he wants to be person who takes care of people in isolation and economic difficulties. This is a small sum of money, but we send it to support his dream," the fans were quoted as saying in a letter to the organization.

The actor was to hold his first fan meeting at Seoul's Yonsei University on the same day.
