S. Korean shares trade nearly flat in late morning trade

SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares continued to trade nearly flat late Monday morning as investors continued to take a wait-and-see stance ahead of the announcement of first-quarter performances by listed firms.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.5 points, or 0.03 percent to 1,974.07 as of 11:20 a.m.

Tech shares traded mixed, with Samsung Electronics advancing 1.25 percent while SK hynix slid 1.24 percent. LG Display moved up 0.76 percent.

Carmakers traded bearish, with No. 1 Hyundai Motor moving down 3.68 percent and Kia Motors decreasing 2.02 percent. Leading auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis fell 2.93 percent.

The local currency was changing hands at 1,146.50 won against the greenback, up 7.7 won from Friday's close.
