S. Korean shares up 0.36 pct in late morning trade

SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares traded 0.36 percent higher late Wednesday morning, led by gains in tech firms and automakers, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 7.07 points to 1,969.81 as of 11:20 a.m.

Market heavyweights traded mixed.

Top market cap Samsung Electronics rose 1.59 percent, and chipmaker SK hynix shed 0.9 percent.

State-run Korea Electric Power Corp. remained unchanged, and top automaker Hyundai Motor rose 0.35 percent.

AmorePacific, the country's top cosmetics maker, gained 1.13 percent and POSCO, the country's top steelmaker, advanced 4.55 percent.

The local currency was changing hands at 1,153.65 won against the greenback, up 1.45 won from the previous session's close.
