Samsung's brand value estimated at 51 tln won

SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- The brand value of Samsung Electronics Co. is estimated to be 51 trillion won (US$44 billion) this year data showed Wednesday, standing as the most valuable company in South Korea.

According to the data compiled by Interbrand, a consulting firm, the South Korean tech giant's value in terms of brand remained unchanged in 2016 from a year earlier, but still maintained the throne.

Ranked behind were Hyundai Motor Co. with 12.4 trillion won and its smaller sister Kia Motors Corp. with 6.2 trillion won. The figures marked a 6.7 percent and 3.2 percent on-year increase, respectively.

South Korea's top mobile carrier SK Telecom saw its value advance 8.4 percent to 4.1 trillion won, while that of Naver Corp., the country's top portal operator, shot up 27.2 percent to reach 3.7 trillion won.

The combined value of South Korea's top 50 brands came to 128 trillion won in 2016, up 3 percent from a year earlier. The top five players accounted for 77.3 trillion won, or 60 percent of the amount held by the top 50 players.
