SEOUL, April 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean media research firm TNMS inked a business agreement with a Mexican company in central Seoul on Friday, to mark the country's first outbound sales of a viewership tracking program.

The South Korean researcher signed a memorandum of understanding with HR Ratings, the first Mexico-based credit rating agency launched in 2007, estimating the initial size of the deal to be around 1 billion won (US$870,000).

"The deal marks (South Korea's) entrance into countries that want advanced research tools for viewership data," a TNMS official said.

The Mexican credit rater added media viewership research to its area of business in 2015.

"The current Mexican viewership research tool has limited access to collecting data from the 5,500 TV homes in Mexico," said Gerardo Lopez, the head of the system technology unit of HR Ratings.

"We were impressed that TNMS already has its hands on developing mobile viewership research tools and lightening up the research system," he added, pinning hopes that South Korean technology will help the Mexican company make a speedy adaptation to the changing media environment.
