SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- Lee Soo-man, the founding chairman and producer of South Korea's S.M. Entertainment, and its artists won big in China's top annual music awards, the entertainment agency said Sunday.

Lee became the first Korean to win Asia's best producer during the 15th Music Feng Yun Awards held in Shenzhen, southern China, on Saturday night, S.M. said.

Singer Kangta, a former H.O.T member, received the top hallyu idol award while boy group EXO clinched the most popular foreign group and the year's best foreign group, it added.

Hallyu refers to the Asianwide boom of South Korean pop culture.

Known as China's Grammy Awards, China's most famous stars such as Hua Chenyu, Zhou Bi Chang and Wei Chen attended this year's event broadcast live on Tencent, the country's most popular Web portal.

EXO performed some of its hit songs in Chinese, winning acclaim from some 10,000 audiences.

"I want to attribute this glory to all our artists ranging from H.O.T. and BoA to TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(X), Red Velvet and to NCT that debuted today on this stage," Lee said in his acceptance speech.

He expressed hope that the two countries will be able to increase their cooperation so as to co-produce some of the world's best cultural content.
