All News 11:25 April 12, 2016

SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares inched up in late morning Tuesday, led by gains in market heavyweights.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 5.18 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,974.31 as of 11:20 a.m.

Top market cap Samsung Electronics climbed 0.79 percent and No. 1 automaker Hyundai Motor gained 0.68 percent.

State-run Korea Electric Power Corp. was up 0.17 percent and top steelmaker POSCO also rose 0.21 percent.

The KOSPI's upward march bucks the trend in New York.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 20.55 points, or 0.12 percent, to 17,556.41, as the U.S. corporate earning season has begun amid a poor profit outlook.

South Korea's won was quoted at 1,144.75 against the U.S. dollar as of 11:20 a.m., up 1.75 won from the previous session's close.
