SEOUL, April 13 (Yonhap) -- The website of the national election watchdog came under a cyberattack on Wednesday, as voters went to the polls to elect lawmakers, the watchdog said.

The search engine on the website that helps voters find their designated polling stations was hit by a so-called distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack for three minutes from 2:22 p.m., the National Election Commission (NEC) said.

The NEC said it resumed all services within minutes by using a cyber shelter. No damages were reported due to the attack.

The election watchdog asked police to investigate the details of the incident, saying it seemed like a deliberate act.

The commission said it strengthened security measures since similar attacks took place on the eve of the 2012 general elections.
