SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -- Police said Thursday they will refer to prosecutors this week a 67-year-old business tycoon suspected of assaulting a janitor, a recent incident that has stirred up public anger.

Jung Woo-hyun, chairman of MPK Group which runs the nation's leading pizza franchise Mr. Pizza, was been booked without detention after allegedly hitting the guard on the cheek twice at a restaurant in Seoul's Seodaemun Ward early this month.

The businessman has visited the janitor's house to offer him an apology for the assault in an apparent bid to avoid formal indictment, but to no avail.

Around 10:30 p.m. on April 2, Jung was stranded at the building where the group-owned restaurant was located after the janitor had locked the building main gate.

Knowing Jung was still inside the restaurant, the janitor came to Jung to apologize for closing the building. But Jung slapped the janitor and the violence was caught on a CCTV installed at the restaurant.
