Russia, China express concern over U.S. missile shield in S. Korea
BEIJING, April 29 (Yonhap) -- The foreign ministers of Russia and China on Friday expressed concern about the possible deployment of an advanced U.S. missile-defense shield in South Korea.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, after holding their bilateral talks in Beijing, also called for an early resumption of the long-stalled talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
Russia and China have long voiced opposition to the possible deployment of the advanced U.S. missile shield or a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) unit, in South Korea.
South Korea and the U.S. have repeatedly assured that the missile system is aimed only at better defending South Korea against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
