(LEAD) S. Korea calls for measures to reduce fine dust emissions

SEOUL, April 29 (Yonhap) -- Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn called on officials Friday to come up with measures to reduce fine dust emissions in the latest move to tackle growing health concerns in South Korea.

Fine dust -- particles smaller than 10 micrometers -- can cause various respiratory diseases and undermine the body's immune system. There are growing concerns in South Korea over fine dust particles that are locally produced or blow in from China.

Hwang’s comments came two days after environment ministers from South Korea and China agreed to set up a center in Beijing to fight air pollution.
