SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News TV has remained the most-watched cable news channel in South Korea for the 10th straight month, Nielsen data showed Wednesday.

The Yonhap News Agency-affiliated cable TV channel posted an average viewership of 0.728 percent last month, the sixth highest of all paid platforms in the country, according to data from Nielson Korea.

Yonhap TV has been the top-watched news channel since last August, beating its South Korean competitor YTN.

The channel's quick coverage and political talk show programs on North Korean and social issues are believed to be the main factor for the soaring viewership, company officials said.

The television is scheduled to revamp its programs early next week to lure in more watchers.

"Many viewers opted to watch our channel to catch up on various issues such as the North Korean party congress and the toxic humidifier sterilizers in May when most television channels logged low viewership," one of the officials said. "Yonhap News TV will transform itself to be a more informative and fresh channel through the program reorganization."
